His Online Cenotaph record has now been read, answering the check this card asked for. Record C120550 is held in the name of DUDLEY JOHN ADAMS against service number 1055, which puts the Museum behind the reading already reached here — that 1055 is his, and that the entry carrying the same number for Ernest M. Allen is the duplicate. It does not by itself disprove Allen. The record adds that he was a BANKER in civilian life and embarked as a TROOPER with the 2nd Divisional Cavalry Regiment, and that his ashes are interred at Howick Cemetery (Paparoa), Auckland, plot COLUM-P10-C006. On original LRP Roll (5 Dec 1940): R — W/T Operator; returned to unit. Source: LRP Roll (Original LRP Nominal Roll as at 5 Dec 1940, Capt L H Browne).
Data note (2026): his service number 1055 is also recorded against L/Cpl Ernest M Allen (R Patrol medical orderly), who additionally holds Medical Corps number 7354503 — so 1055 most likely belongs here, with Allen's entry being the duplicate. Not yet confirmed against the Auckland Online Cenotaph (which blocks automated access); a manual check is recommended.
