What this roll records
Guardsman A. Allen, of the Coldstream Guards, served with G Patrol — the LRDG’s Guards Patrol — and took part in the Murzuk Raid. The Murzuk Raid on 11 January 1941 was G Patrol’s first major action: the patrol, with the Free French, attacked the Italian fort and airfield at Murzuk in the Fezzan. Losses were light — Sergeant Cyril Hewson was killed, as was the French Colonel d’Ornano. No further biographical information has yet been found for Guardsman Allen.
