What this roll records

CWGC record (2026): Trooper John Anderson, service no. 2021762, Royal Armoured Corps. Died 16 April 1947, aged 38. BURIED AT DUNDEE WESTERN CEMETERY, Angus — Compt. 16, grave 87C. Son of Samuel and Jane Sinclair Anderson, of Dundee; husband of Jane Corke Anderson, of Dundee. His headstone bears the inscription “We have not lost him. He is for ever in our hearts.” Two cautions: the Commission records him as John Anderson, without the middle initial carried here, and unlike the other LRDG men his record does not name the Long Range Desert Group as a secondary unit — the identification rests on the exact service number. Note for future researchers: a Find A Grave memorial for a “Sgt John J Anderson” (1917–1990) is NOT this man — the dates are irreconcilable with his death on 16 April 1947. Recorded here so the trail is not followed twice.
