What this roll records

Added to the roll in August 2026 from the Auckland War Memorial Museum’s “L.R.D.G. Membership Roll, February 1970” — the New Zealand Association’s own register of its surviving members, which is the sole evidence for his LRDG service so far. He embarked as a Bombardier with the New Zealand Artillery (2NZEF Roll 12). His medals are the 1939–45 Star, the War Medal 1939–45, the New Zealand War Service Medal and the PACIFIC STAR — the Pacific Star implying service in the Pacific as well as the Middle East, which is unusual on this roll and worth pursuing. Online Cenotaph record found in August 2026 by searching the Museum’s records for the unit itself. THE MUSEUM STATES HIS SERVICE OUTRIGHT: “Military service: Long Range Desert Group (LRDG)”. He embarked as a BOMBARDIER of the NEW ZEALAND ARTILLERY (2NZEF Roll 12). His medals are the 1939–45 Star, the War Medal 1939–45, the New Zealand War Service Medal and the PACIFIC STAR — so he served in the Pacific as well as the desert. AND HIS FAMILY: the record records him as brother to Percival Argyle and Leonard Charles Argyle, WHO BOTH DIED ON 8 AUGUST 1915 AT CHUNUK BAIR.
