Ashton”, with no rank, no service number and no dates — one of the barest entries on it, carried on the LRDG Preservation Society’s Troopers roll alone. He was STEPHEN HENRY ASHTON, and he DIED IN 1976. THE MONTH AND DAY ARE NOT RECORDED HERE because they were not supplied; the year stands on its own rather than being dressed up with a date this roll does not have.
