What this roll records

The service-number field on this card read “#NZ” — the letters alone, with no number after them. That is a working mark: somebody recorded that he was a New Zealander and meant to come back for the number. It was showing publicly as though it were his number. It has been cleared. HE IS A NEW ZEALANDER AND HIS SERVICE NUMBER IS NOT KNOWN.
