What this roll records
HIS MILITARY MEDAL, AND WHAT IS AND IS NOT KNOWN ABOUT IT (2026). The London Gazette was searched for it in August 2026 and RETURNED NOTHING — not against his service number 598902, and not against his name with Rhodesian qualifiers. THAT SILENCE IS NOT EVIDENCE AGAINST THE AWARD, and it should not be read as one. Southern Rhodesian awards are known to sit outside the Gazette’s reach in the way this roll can search it; the same came back empty for the other Rhodesian honours-holders on the roll. The award itself comes from the roll’s own sources — the LRDG Preservation Society’s Troopers roll and Brendan O’Carroll’s Rhodesia nominal roll — which is why it is recorded here. What is missing is a CITATION, not a source. The place to look is O’Carroll’s Rhodesian material directly, or the Rhodesian honours lists, neither of which is reachable from here.
Patrol S (S1/S2) INFERRED from Rhodesian/South African service number (SR/RH prefix) - the LRDG Rhodesian & S.African squadron formed S Patrol. Specific S1/S2 not individually confirmed.
