*** A NOTE FOR ANYONE SEARCHING FOR HIM: THE GAZETTE MISSPELLS HIS SURNAME. *** His Military Cross entry at Supplement 35771, page 4795, 11 November 1942, reads “Lieutenant Robert Brodie BODTH (153349), The King’s Royal Rifle Corps”. The double O has been read as “od” in the Gazette’s scanned text, so A SEARCH ON THE SURNAME BOOTH FINDS NOTHING AT ALL, while a search on the service number finds him at once. A 2026 audit recorded him as having no wartime Gazette entry for exactly this reason, and that finding was wrong. Recorded so the search is not repeated and the negative is not believed.
Checked CWGC 28 Jul 2026 by service number: no casualty record (survived the war).

An earlier London Gazette entry than his Military Cross: “Robert Brodie Booth (153349)” appears under a King’s Royal Rifle Corps section in the supplement to issue 34981, p. 6236, October 1940 — apparently his commission. Two independent readings of that page gave the date as 25 and as 29 October; the issue and page are certain, the exact day is not.
