HE HELD THE MILITARY MEDAL, AND THIS CARD DID NOT SAY SO. The recommendation survives at The National Archives, Kew, as WO 373/146/321: “Bremner, James. Rank: Sergeant. Service No: RH 2552926. Regiment: Long Range Desert Group. Theatre of Combat or Operation: Middle East (Special Operations and Escapes). Award: Military Medal. Date of announcement in London Gazette: 20 June 1946.” The number matches the RH2552926 already recorded here from the Rhodesia Nominal Roll. TWO THINGS WORTH NOTING. The catalogue gives his rank as SERGEANT where this card has Signalman, which is promotion rather than contradiction. And the theatre — “Special Operations and Escapes” — together with the announcement date of June 1946, sits with what this card already records: he was taken prisoner in the Dodecanese on 17 November 1943. Awards to men who escaped from captivity were commonly gazetted only after the war. The citation has not been read. Source: The National Archives, Discovery catalogue, WO 373/146/321.
