Forenames given in full in August 2026 as William David, where this roll held only “W. David”. The Auckland War Memorial Museum’s L.R.D.G. Membership Roll of February 1970 gives the full form against the same service number. The old form is kept in the AKA field and stays searchable. The merge note already on this card records the duplicate entry as “Burnand, William David”, so the two agree. Source: Auckland War Memorial Museum Online Cenotaph, record C134909.
Confirmed from LRDG Trooper Album B.
Army number corrected to NZ #1179 (per Brendan O’Carroll); the earlier record of ‘1174’ was a transcription error — that number belongs to 2nd Lieutenant Reginald Francis White, T2 Patrol.
Consolidated with a duplicate ‘Burnand, William David’ entry (same NZ #1179; ‘Burnand/Burnard’ spelling). That entry carried an LRP Roll pencil annotation reading ‘Died of Wounds; HQ A Sqn’ — unverified, and at odds with his appearance in post-war LRDG rolls; flagged for verification.

Embarkation detail from his Cenotaph record: he embarked as Trooper, 2nd Divisional Cavalry Regiment. This agrees with the rank held on this card. Source: Auckland War Memorial Museum Online Cenotaph, record C134909.
