Deeper background (2026): his full name was Peter Victor Kenneth Carlsson. The London Gazette of 17 March 1944 (issue 36427, supplement p. 1271) lists him in the King’s Royal Rifle Corps as “RH76857932 Peter Victor Kenneth CARLSSON (308563)” — the RH prefix showing he held a Rhodesian service number before being commissioned. A later notice of 15 January 1946 (issue 37434, supplement p. 514) records “War Subs. Lt. P. V. K. Carlsson (308563)”. Probable duplicate record: the roll carries both “Carlsson, Peter” and “Carlsson, J.V.K.”. The London Gazette twice gives the initials P.V.K. — Peter Victor Kenneth Carlsson, service no. 308563 — and the LRDG Preservation Society’s roster lists only one Carlsson. The form “J.V.K.”, which came from the IWM 1945 Association roll, is very likely a misreading of P.V.K. NOT MERGED: the evidence is inferential rather than a matched service number.
