What this roll records
The roll formerly carried this man twice, as “Clark, Huge” and as “Clarke, H.R.”. Both are Sergeants of the R.A.S.C. taken prisoner in the Dodecanese on 23 October 1943, and the service numbers are the same number with and without the R.A.S.C. “T” prefix — #T98612 and #98612. The two records were merged in August 2026, keeping the entry that carries his photograph, patrol and nominal-roll history. Note that the published sources — W.B. Kennedy Shaw’s appendices and Brendan O’Carroll’s Aegean roll — both give him as Sergeant H.R. Clarke, so “Huge”, as it stands on the Troopers roll, is very likely a mis-transcription of “Hugh”.

THE NAME ON THIS CARD HAS BEEN CORRECTED FROM “CLARK, HUGE” TO “CLARKE, H.R.” W. B. Kennedy Shaw’s appendices and Brendan O’Carroll’s Aegean roll both give him as Sergeant H. R. Clarke, and “Huge” is almost certainly a mis-transcription of Hugh. The old form is kept in the AKA field.
