Online Cenotaph record found in August 2026. BORN 21 OCTOBER 1915. A MILL HAND in civilian life. He embarked as a GUNNER of the NEW ZEALAND ARTILLERY, 4 FIELD REGIMENT, in the EMPRESS OF CANADA. His campaigns are given as 1941 CRETE and NORTH AFRICA. HE DIED ON 15 NOVEMBER 2010, AGED 95, and was cremated; a death notice appeared in the New Zealand Herald of 17 November 2010. ON THE NAME: the record carries Archibald as an alternative and states plainly that the name is incorrectly recorded as Archibald on the Nominal Rolls for 2NZEF — so the Archie held here is right, and the Museum says so. His L.R.D.G. membership is taken from the L.R.D.G. Membership Roll of February 1970 (Auckland Museum EPH-W2-11-27). Source: Auckland War Memorial Museum Online Cenotaph, record C132416.

Added to the roll in August 2026 from the Auckland War Memorial Museum’s “L.R.D.G. Membership Roll, February 1970” — the New Zealand Association’s own register of its surviving members, which is the sole evidence for his LRDG service so far. Born 21 October 1915; a mill hand in civilian life. He embarked as a Gunner with the New Zealand Artillery, 4 Field Regiment, in the Empress of Canada. Died 15 November 2010, aged 95; cremated.
