London Gazette, 21 April 1942, Issue 35532, page 1796, under “The Military Medal”: “No. 2655049 Lance-Sergeant Jack Dennis, Coldstream Guards.” He was a Lance-Sergeant. THE FORENAME: the Gazette prints JACK where this roll has John. The number is exact, and Jack is the ordinary familiar form of John, so this is a variant rather than a discrepancy.
