*** THE CROIX DE GUERRE SEARCH IS NOW CLOSED, AND IT DOES NOT SUPPORT THE AWARD. *** Earlier research found one Gazette notice pairing the surname du Toit with foreign decorations — London Gazette, Supplement 38288, page 2920, 11 May 1948 — but could not read it, because the Gazette serves that page only as a PDF. The page has since been read in full. THE ONLY DU TOIT ON IT IS “Sapper J. C. du TOIT, Union Defence Force”, AND HE APPEARS UNDER THE BRITISH EMPIRE MEDAL, not under any foreign decoration. Different initials, different award. That notice is not this man. THE CROIX DE GUERRE ON THIS CARD THEREFORE STILL RESTS ON NO SOURCE, and where it came from is an open question. Recorded so the search is not repeated.
Confirmed.
