What this roll records

The verbatim line, and what that supplement actually is. London Gazette, 22 June 1943, Supplement 36065, page 2862: “7601055 Corpl. W. F. Dugan.” — so his initials are W. F. and he was a Corporal at that date. That supplement is the Mentioned in Despatches list for the Middle East covering 1 May to 22 October 1942, its preamble on page 2853 reading “The KING has been graciously pleased to approve that the following be Mentioned in recognition of gallant and distinguished services in the Middle East”. The reference already on this card describes it as an honours supplement; it is more exactly the despatch list, which is what makes it the notice of his Mention. Source: The London Gazette.

Confirmed.

Deeper background (2026): a London Gazette honours supplement (36065, p.2862, 22 Jun 1943) carries his service number, 7601055, among Royal Army Ordnance Corps senior NCOs — consistent with his recorded Mention in Despatches (the exact citation line was not legible in the scan). AND WHAT THAT SUPPLEMENT ACTUALLY IS. The reference above describes Supplement 36065 as an honours supplement. More exactly: that supplement is the Mentioned in Despatches list for the Middle East covering 1 May to 22 October 1942, its preamble on page 2853. The verbatim entry reads “7601055 Corpl. W. F. Dugan.”, which also fixes his initials as W. F. and his rank as Corporal at that date. Source: The London Gazette.
