HE DIED ON 13 OCTOBER 1994. The Press notice names him in full with his number — “FANNING, Vincent Stephen David (Reg. No. 13822 L.R.D.G.)” — AND BOTH ARE THIS CARD’S OWN, forename for forename and digit for digit. He was the beloved husband of Joy and the dear dad of Mary, Lu, Tricia and Sue; “pop” to Tracey, Lisa and Samantha Palmer and to Kim, Rachel, Alana and Jamie Fanning; and “good mate of Merv, Gary and Joel, and of his friend, Brandy”. His funeral service was held in the Kerrs Road Chapel, Linwood, on 15 October 1994, and the interment was private to the family. The prefix NZ has been added to his service number, on the authority of the Auckland War Memorial Museum Online Cenotaph record already linked on this card — the Museum holds him as a New Zealand service person. The digits are unchanged. This roll formerly left the number unmarked, which made it look like a British number to anyone reading the field rather than the card.
