What this roll records

From the Cenotaph record linked to service number #2441 — WHICH THIS CARD ALREADY FLAGS AS A POSSIBLE MIS-MATCH, being in the name of Alfred Graham Ferguson rather than Allan: that man was a steward in civilian life, embarked as a Sapper with 5 Field Park Company, New Zealand Engineers, died 11 April 1989 aged 69, and is buried at Andersons Bay RSA Cemetery, Dunedin, Block 20SC, Plot 1. IF the two are the same man, that is his trade, his unit and his grave. If they are not, none of it belongs here. The identification is unresolved and none of it has been written into the fields. March 1942 roll (courtesy Tarek el Mahdy): A/T Gunner?

POSSIBLE MIS-MATCH: the linked AWMM record for service #2441 is “Alfred Graham Ferguson”, a Sapper of the N.Z. Engineers (5 Field Park Company), died 11 April 1989 aged 69, buried Andersons Bay RSA Cemetery, Dunedin — which does not match the name (Allan), rank (Sergeant) or unit held here. Not applied pending review. Source: Auckland War Memorial Museum Online Cenotaph.
