What this roll records
Full name Peter Lloyd Garland (recorded as “Petre” on the nominal roll). A shepherd in civilian life. Went overseas with the 1st Echelon in 1939 to Egypt with the Divisional Cavalry; seconded to the Long Range Desert Group until the Greek campaign. After Greece he took an Armoured Fighting Vehicles course and returned to New Zealand in November 1942 as an instructor at Waiouru Military Camp; graded out from a further overseas posting (11th Reinforcements) because of an eye defect.
