COMMISSIONED FROM THE RANKS, AND A SECOND SERVICE NUMBER. London Gazette, 21 January 1944, Supplement 36343, page 463, under “ROYAL ARMOURED CORPS. The undermentioned cadets to be 2nd Lts.: 19th Sept. 1943”: “2755331 LEWIS ARCHIBALD GIBSON (303962).” It gives his forenames in full and an OFFICER’S SERVICE NUMBER, 303962, which this roll did not hold and which is the number any later notice would use. Note that the Gazette places the commission in the Royal Armoured Corps, where this card gives Scots Guards; both can be true of a man commissioned out of his regiment, and neither has been altered.
