*** THE SERVICE NUMBER ON THIS CARD BELONGS TO ANOTHER MAN. *** London Gazette, 27 November 1959, Supplement 41881, page 7605: “Maj. (Qr.-Mr.) A. O'C. GREENWOOD, M.B.E. (248020), to be Lt.-Col. (Qr.-Mr.).” 248020 belongs to an A. O'C. Greenwood who was still serving in 1959. AND A LEAD ON THE RIGHT ONE: London Gazette, 1 February 1952, Supplement 39454, page 696, records “Ashley Martin GREENWOOD, M.C. (132776)” relinquishing his commission with the honorary rank of Major; and an “Ashley Martin Greenwood, Royal Regiment of Artillery” holds a Military Cross in the list of 21 March 1944, Supplement 36436, page 1367, on the same page as two confirmed L.R.D.G. men. Forename, arm of service and date all fit, but nothing yet ties 132776 to the Group, so the identification is recorded as UNPROVEN and the honours field has not been touched.
