Commanded A (NZ) Squadron — about 110 New Zealanders — in the Aegean (Sep–Oct 1943). With Captain Tinker urged that Levita be reconnoitred before the assault; after the disaster searched for the missing, and on 31 October left for Egypt to press for the LRDG’s withdrawal. The Kiwi Scorpions (Brendan O'Carroll): Maj. A. I. Guild — farming student, Christchurch; born Temuka, 19 Feb 1916; patrol commander LRDG; CO A (NZ) Squadron LRDG 1942–43.
Patrol commander: commanded R1 Patrol. Kiwi Scorpions (Appendix II — Commanders of NZ Patrols).
Sting of the Scorpion (Brendan O'Carroll) — the assault on Levita: Levita, 23–24 Oct 1943: as A Squadron commander (with Capt R. A. Tinker) urged that a reconnaissance be made before the landing, but was refused as the situation was deemed urgent. Led the search for the missing the following night; on 31 Oct 1943 left by destroyer for Egypt to seek the LRDG's withdrawal.
