ADDED TO THIS ROLL ON 11 SEPTEMBER 2026, WITH HIS SURNAME QUERIED BY THE SOURCE THAT SUPPLIES IT. The entry reads “Hewett ??”, and the question marks are that roll’s own. He is given as a GUARDSMAN of G-2 PATROL who JOINED ON 1 NOVEMBER 1942 and served in the desert, and the informant is named as Tarek el Mahdy, whose nominal rolls this site has drawn on before. THE RANK AND THE PATROL AGREE WITH EACH OTHER, which is some comfort: G2 is a Guards patrol and a Guardsman belongs in it. NO SERVICE NUMBER IS RECORDED FOR HIM, on that roll or anywhere on this one, so he cannot be searched at the Commonwealth War Graves Commission or in the service records. That is the first thing anyone working on him will need. HE IS ON THE ROLL RATHER THAN OFF IT because a man whose surname is uncertain still served; the alternative is to leave him out altogether, and that would be a worse record than an honest doubt. If you can add anything about him and his LRDG service, please email the roll keeper. Recorded from Ian Chard’s red-line corrections to the L.R.D.G. P.S. Troopers roll of 11 September 2026 (LRDG_IanChard_Troopers_redlines_vs_roll_2026-09-11.xlsx), supplied by Tony Moore.
