What this roll records

Born 12 May 1918 at Waimate, South Canterbury. Captured 28 December 1942 on the Bu Ngem–Geddahiah track; POW at PG 54 Fara in Sabina and P.G. 115, Marsciano (Perugia); escaped PG115 c.8 Sept 1943 and hid out until repatriated at L'Aquila, reported safe 22 July 1944. Tractor operator in civilian life. Embarked/served with 27 (Machine Gun) Battalion. Post-war occupation truck driver. Source: Auckland War Memorial Museum Online Cenotaph.
