Service number amended in August 2026 from #171692 to #17169, on the balance of evidence rather than on proof. The Auckland War Memorial Museum’s L.R.D.G. Membership Roll of February 1970 gives 17169. No second source has been found either way, so the superseded figure, 171692, is recorded here in case it proves to be the right one. The superseded figure has six digits where the 2NZEF series around it runs to five, which is itself a sign of a stray digit. Embarkation detail from his Cenotaph record: he embarked as CORPORAL, 2nd N.Z. Div Cavalry Regt, Nominal Roll 4 p. 191. He embarked at a HIGHER rank than this roll records for him — the roll holds him as a Trooper. That is the opposite of the usual direction. On Tony’s decision of 22 August 2026 the rank held on this card has been raised to match the embarkation record; the rank it previously held was Trooper. The prefix NZ has been added to his service number, on the authority of the Auckland War Memorial Museum Online Cenotaph record already linked on this card — the Museum holds him as a New Zealand service person. The digits are unchanged. This roll formerly left the number unmarked, which made it look like a British number to anyone reading the field rather than the card.
