HE HELD THE BRITISH EMPIRE MEDAL, AND THIS CARD DID NOT SAY SO. Until today this record held nothing but his name, his number and the note that nothing further had been found. The recommendation for his award survives at The National Archives, Kew, as WO 373/75/433, in the series of War Office recommendations for honours and awards. The catalogue entry gives “Lowe, Cyril Reginald. Rank: Corporal. Service No: 2343442. Regiment: Long Range Desert Group. Theatre of Combat or Operation: Mediterranean. Award: British Empire Medal. Date of announcement in London Gazette: 21 June 1945.” The service number is exact and the regiment is named as the Group itself, not an attachment. WHAT IS NOT HERE: the citation, which is in the file image and has not been read, so what he did for it is still unknown. Source: The National Archives, Discovery catalogue, WO 373/75/433.
