What this roll records
A MINUTE OF FILM OF HIM SPEAKING TO CAMERA SURVIVES, AND IT CAN BE WATCHED. The channel “Special Forces in World War 2” has published a one-minute piece to camera captioned “Captain Patrick McCraith, speaking into the camera, of Y Patrol of the Long Range Desert Group”. It is listed on the Videos page of this site. THE CHANNEL’S OWN NOTE gives his service as: born Nottingham, June 1916; schooled at Harrow, where he was in the Officer Training Corps; commissioned into the Sherwood Rangers in January 1935 and later a troop leader in B Squadron in Palestine; and that he RAISED AND COMMANDED Y PATROL from 1940 until he was wounded on an operation the following year. That last agrees with what this roll already held from Kennedy Shaw’s list of patrol commanders. The rest is the channel’s account and is recorded here as such, not as an independent source.
