What this roll records
HIS SERVICE WITH THE GROUP CONFIRMED IN WARTIME PRINT, IN HIS BROTHER’S DEATH NOTICE. The Auckland Star of 18 October 1944, reporting the death in action in Italy of Corporal D. C. McLeod of Helensville, NZ #32434, also of this roll: “A younger brother, Fraser McLeod, who left with a later reinforcement, also served in the Long Range Desert Group, but is now a prisoner of war in Germany.” That single sentence is the whole of what the New Zealand press says about him, and it is the contemporary source for both his service with the Group and his captivity.
