Commanded W patrol from the LRDG’s formation, leading the crossing of the Egyptian Sand Sea and reconnaissances around Kufra (1940) and the attacks on the Ain Dua post at Uweinat (November 1940). Later first OC of A Squadron, and commanded the detached A Squadron (G and Y patrols) at Siwa in 1941.
