A MILITARY MEDAL THIS ROLL DID NOT RECORD AT ALL. London Gazette, 21 March 1944, Supplement 36436, page 1367, under “The Military Medal”, for gallant and distinguished services in the field: “No. 982471 Signalman (acting Corporal) WILLIAM HUME MORRISON, Royal Corps of Signals.” The honours field on this card was empty. AND IT EXPLAINS A LONG-STANDING FAILURE: three separate searches of the Auckland Museum’s Online Cenotaph for this man came back empty, and the reason is that he is listed with a BRITISH CORPS. On the same Gazette page the New Zealanders appear under their own separate heading and he is not among them, so the NZ prefix carried against his service number is likely wrong.
