POSSIBLE DUPLICATE, RECORDED BUT NOT MERGED (2026). This card and the card for “Reid, Alastair” may be the same man. IN FAVOUR: Reid and Reed are the same name spelled two ways, and the initial A fits Alastair. AGAINST: the second initial P has nothing to match against, and Reid and Reed are both extremely common. The two entries have deliberately NOT been merged. They are recorded here so that the question is visible on both cards rather than buried in a research file, and so that anyone who can settle it — a family member, a nominal roll, a photograph caption — can see what is being asked.

The roll recorded his surname as 'Reed (C?)'; the '(C?)' notation (an uncertain initial/query) is noted here and removed from the name field.
