?????sp Springboard

What this roll records

*** THIS RECORD IS CORRUPT AND IS KEPT ONLY AS EVIDENCE. *** Both fields are damaged: the surname reads “Springboard” and the forename “?????sp”. No such man is known. SPRINGBOARD IS WHAT AN AUTOCORRECT MAKES OF SPRINGFORD, and this roll carries an open question about two Springfords — Brian Crozier, Sergeant of Y2, and V. C., who has a card and nothing else. This record may well be the third fragment of that same confusion, which is why it has not simply been deleted. It should be resolved together with the Springford question, not on its own.

UPDATE, later the same day: the two Springford records have since been merged, the second having carried the first’s service number with two digits transposed. That leaves this corrupt record as the only fragment of the confusion still standing. It is still not deleted, because nothing has been established about what it was before it was damaged.
