The roll formerly carried this man twice, as “Van Rensberg, Johannes Daniel” and as “Jansen Van Rensburg, D.” — the same Rhodesian service number SR598906, the same rank of Sergeant and the same nickname, Van. The two were merged in August 2026, keeping this entry, which carries his photograph, his full forenames and his patrol. TWO SPELLING QUESTIONS ARE LEFT OPEN RATHER THAN DECIDED. The discarded entry gave the surname as JANSEN VAN RENSBURG, and Janse van Rensburg is a real Afrikaans compound surname, so that form may well be the fuller and more correct one. And this card spells the second element RENSBERG while his own photograph is filed as “Van Rensburg” with a U. Neither has been changed here.
